LINDOS and BUTTERFLY VALLEY – June to September – Full Day
The tour begins in the Valley of the Butterflies* where thousands upon thousands of butterflies congregate in the cool shade of the maple trees. They make this epic journey during the period June to September. A walk up to the origins of the springs that feed the valleys water supply and form a pool at the entrance to the valley.
Millions of Butterflies virtually cover every centimeter on the barks of the trees and give the visitor a feeling of stepping into an enchanted valley. A walk up and over the rustic footbridges that crisscross the spring will cool you and give you an opportunity to photograph this unique valley. It is advised to be quiet while there so as not to disturb these fragile butterflies.
As you continue, you will slowly ascend the mount Profitis Ilias where you will see two Alpen style Inns for a short break. Feeling a bit hungry you will welcome the next stop for winetasting and local produce before stopping for lunch at Embona at one of the most popular “tavernas”. Here the famous Rhodian cuisine is a must for your taste-buds.
After lunch you will cross the island to Lindos, the most popular ancient site on the island. You will be impressed by the Acropolis, surrounded by an ancient fortress wall. You may visit the Temple of Athena Lyndia from where you will enjoy breath-taking views of the white-washed village houses and turquoise sea on the one side and the Bay of Saint Paul on the other.
